‘Pooia Post: Beers in Toyland

Just some updates to keep our loyal surfers up-to-date:

Perverse Ultimatoe on December 2nd

Wow! We are so lucky to have such great bands playing for us. The Grand St. Band had a fantastic show on November 18, and are returning February 3. If you missed them the first time, you have a second chance… don’t miss them!

(Who knew that LL Cool J’s “Mama said knock you out” was such a popular song in a typically “blues” bar? The crowd demanded an encore performance!)

So, after that great performance, we get to have another very unique and super-cool band play for us. Perverse Ultimatoe, a funky, rockin blues duo from Corvallis, is playing Saturday Night (December 2nd) at 7:30. We highly recommend checking them out online as well as coming in for a beer and free live music, because their songs are so cool! If they bring CDs with them to the show, the ‘Pooia will be first in line to buy one, I tell you what!

The PDX Brew Crew Descends like Beer Drinking Locusts!

Ok, so it wasn’t quite plague-proportions, but a whole (bio-diesel) busload of Portland’s finest beer aficianados visited the ‘Pooia on Sunday. What a great time! They were able to try all of our current brews, meet with Mark & Laura to talk beer,

and take a tour of the brewery, where Mark, Colin,
MarknColin.jpg
and our own ‘Pooia Pee-Wee Sophia

gave them the low-down on our goods (and how to dunk your entire head in a bucket of water - you had to be there!). Our #1 Beer Wench, Trisha, had a great time taking care of the standing-room-only crowd. Thanks so much for coming to visit; we really enjoyed it!

If you’d like to bring a large group to the Calapooia Brewing Co. for a tasting and a tour, shoot us an email. We’ll bring you in early for a special visit!

Christmas Comes Early to the Calapooia!

Just in time to enjoy the Civil War game between the Oregon State Beavers and the University of Oregon Ducks (go Beavs!!), the ‘Pooia pub received a couple of nifty gifts: a 37″ LCD HDTV and a great heater for our lovely covered atrium. We broke in the TV with an early opening for Civil War on Friday the 24th. We had a huge crowd cheering on both teams, and our devoted patrons brought in several tasty dishes to share. Come back for college bowl games and the Super Bowl if you missed this one! Our atrium is looking (and feeling) especially cozy these days with the addition of two gi-normous picnic tables and a propane heater. Circle up around the heat, share some beer and coversation with friends, and watch the snow (whoo hoo!!) come down.

Order Up!

With our new kitchen comes new hours as well. Come January 1st, you’ll be able to satisfy your hankering for the best beer in the Valley starting at 11:30 am (hey, it’s 5:00 somewhere!) Oh yeah, and if you want something to eat with that, there will be hot and cold sandwiches and burgers, burgers, burgers! Speaking of expanded hours…

Are You ‘Pooia Material?

Because of our expanding menu and hours, the ‘Pooia will need to expand our staff as well. If you have experience in a kitchen or behind a bar, and love beer and people, come by the pub and pick up an app. You’ll be joining a crew of truly devoted beer lovers who believe in the success of this business, and who know they are indispensible parters in that success.

And the Bent Paddle Award Goes to…

Members of PLRG gather at Calapooia Brewing Co. for the “Bent Paddle Award Ceremony.”

The paddle is passed as former holders of the award gather to pass the paddle to John “Devil’s Staircase” Sterner, etc. (left to right, John Sterner, Brian Hardenburger, Neal Duttlinger and Steve Rose)

Calapooia Brewing Packs Suds in Corvallis

Calapooia Brewing had it’s tasting last night at Suds & Suds in Corvallis. Mark and Laura brought their entire staff to host the event, and 5 taps of ‘Pooia beer flowed from 6 to 9pm. Judging from the endless line at the bar and standing room only, the event was a huge success!

Special thanks to Gibby, Julie and Joe who were working the bar at Suds and did a great job to keep up with the demand of a packed house!

Below are some pics I snapped while hanging out. I started a Calapooia Brewing Flickr Group to host pics for the website, and I’ll add more pics to the group with upcoming events. Got pictures you’d like to add? Great! Flickr is a free hosting site and it only takes a second to sign up (and if you already have a Yahoo account, you’re ahead of the game). The group is public and you can add your pics directly! At the bottom of the ‘Pooia website is a snapshot of the latest 5 pics added to the group. I saw at least 4 others cameras snapping pics at the tasting so add your pics to the group, or send them to me and I’ll add them.

Cheers!
