‘Pooia Post: Bring the Fam!
Posted by Laura
‘Pooia Gains a Modicum of Respectability!
In our continued efforts to make the Calapooia Brewing Co. a respectable establishment (instead of the den of iniquity it currently is – yeah, right!) we are now permitted by the OLCC to allow minors on the premises during lunch hours (11:30am-3:00pm) Tuesday through Saturday. They are permitted on site only for the purpose of eating, and are not allowed to engage in any recreation (like darts or music). BUT, for those of you discerning beer quaffers (like us) who would like to eat a burger, sip a great beer, AND enjoy the company of your family, well, come on down and bring the Fam!
Out of the Ordinary: Music on Fat Tuesday!
Please join us to ring in Lent! (wait, that doesn’t quite sound right). Anyway, celebrate Fat Tuesday with the Brew Crew and Bon Ton Roulet on Tuesday the 20th, Fat Tuesday. If you observe Lent, what better way to “live-it-up” before 40 days of restraint than to suck down the best brews in the Valley and munch on juicy, thick hamburgers and crisp tater tots?
Get it while it’s hot! Shipwreck Imperial IPA
Calapooia’s first Imperial IPA is getting rave reviews! At 8.2%, it is not to be trifled with, what with nearly double the malt of our famous Yankee Clipper IPA and 20 pounds of simcoe hops (that works out to about 3.3 pounds of hops per barrel). Great Job Brewmaster Mark!
Suds & Suds Promo part Deux, March 15th
Our first promo at Suds & Suds in Corvallis was such a hit, we’re returning to the scene of the crime on March 15th to do it again. Join us from 6-9 pm for a great sampling of our fantastic craft brews and tons of give-aways. Last November, we gave away 20 shirts and serious cash in gift certificates! Don’t miss it!

CALAPOOIA CHILI BEER WINS PEOPLE’S CHOICE!
Posted by Laura
Calapooia Brewing Co. won it’s first award this last weekend at the KLCC Brew Fest on February 9th & 10th!
Our incredibly unique and zesty Chili Beer won 1st place in the People’s Choice competition. Mark & Laura were mobbed with questions about Chili Beer’s availability, but unfortunately, we do not currently bottle.
You can find Chili Beer on tap at three locations: our pub in Albany, Wyatt’s Eatery in Albany, and Intaba’s Wildfire Grill in Corvallis. If you come visit us, you can purchase 1/2 gallon “growlers” of any of our 15 on-tap beers to take home with you. Remember, good friends share their beer.
And now, for something completely different:
Music
The ‘Pooia will be hosting a special engagement on Fat Tuesday (Feb. 20th) to celebrate Mardi Gras. Bon Ton Roulet will play their great blend of bluegrass/zydeco in order to bring a little bit o’ the bayou to the brewery.
Disclaimer: Just because we are celebrating Fat Tuesday, don’t think we endorse anyone depriving themselves of our beer for the next 40 days!
Just in Time for Valentine’s Day
Our brand new Shipwreck Imperial IPA will be on tap at our brewpub starting Wednesday, February 14th. Come enjoy a Shipwreck with someone you love!

‘Pooia Post: Another Bland ‘Pooia Update!
Posted by Laura
Just some updates to keep our loyal surfers up-to-date:
Attack of the Killer Crustaceans from Outer Space!
Well, OK, the crustaceans are fresh Oregon Dungeness crabs – lots and lots of them – and they’re boiled and dipped in butter and garlic and you can munch on their delicate, succulent flesh while listening to great music and drinking the best hand-crafted beer in the Mid-Willamette Valley and contributing to noble causes that provide dictionaries to schools in Linn County and scholarships to high-school students. All for the bargain price of $25 per ticket. Plus you are automatically entered to win fantastic prizes.
You can buy tickets to the 7th Annual Rotary Crab Fest, held on February 10th starting at 3:00, at your friendly, neighborhood Brewery (that would be us.)
But the headline got you reading, right?
Do You Suffer from Wild Hog Fever?
Do you throw your shoes into the clothes dryer, just to get a funky beat? Do you suddenly blurt out words to songs in elevators, hoping to start a sing-along? Have you sneaked into your neighbor’s yard to twang their clothesline, or scratch your fingernails along corrugated metal, rejoicing at the sounds it makes? You, my friend, have WILD HOG FEVER! While there is no cure, there is hope. Bring anything musical (guitar, bass, accordion, washboard, tub bass, kazoo, hammer dulcimer, saxophone, ANYTHING!) down to the ‘Pooia every Thursday night (except the 3rd Thursday of the month) at 7:00 and get group therapy with the boys of Wild Hog in the Woods. The Hogs are licensed in the art of Blue Grass and are clinically proven to help relieve the itch of pent-up boogie-woogie.
Stay strong!
Mark & Laura Perform Their First Brew Fest Operation!
The KLCC Brew Fest is being held at the Exhibit Hall of the Lane Events Center in Eugene on February 9th and 10th. Laura will (wo)man the booth on Friday, while Mark takes over on Saturday. Assistant Brewer Colin will keep us company on both days. The Fest runs from 5-11pm on Friday and Saturday. Come see us, and vote for the People’s Choice beer. In years past, the Chili Beer has won, so we are bringing it and our new Riverdog ESB to wow the webfoots (webfeet?) in Ducktown. Plus, you’ll be supporting KLCC public radio – oh yeah, and you’ll get to try great beer from a myriad of other micorbreweries in Oregon blah blah blah….
‘Pooia Grub Cures Hunger!
I heard it with my own ears:
“This is the best burger in Albany!”
Spoken by a satisfied Public Figure about the ‘Pooia’s Class V burger!
And from Al Rivers, one of the artists who graced us with his music in January:
“Hi Laura, I had a good time last night. Best beer & nachos ever…NO KIDDIN’!… and nice folks.”
Well, thanks to everyone who has helped make our kitchen a success! We love grilling up the best food to go with the best beer… it’s a natural!
Cheers!
