Northwest Art and Air Festival Starts Today!

Sorry for the late notice folks, but if you were wondering what to do with your weekend, come join us at the Northwest Art and Air Festival! We’ll be in the beer garden of course serving up your favorite Pacific Northwest microbrews and taking in what should be a very pleasant weekend in the low to mid 80′s.

The festival started early this morning with the balloon launch, but you can catch them again bright and early at 6:45 tomorrow morning. Tonight the beer and wine garden opens at 4pm, and later Curtis Salgado takes the stage and will play before and after the nightglow balloon show. Tomorrow is jam packed with a classic car show, airplane and helicopter rides, artist demonstrations, and local food booths. The beer and wine garden opens at 5pm and Creedence Clearwater Revisited takes the stage later that night.

Hope we see you this weekend and enjoy the festival!

Pictures from the Historic Albany Criterium Championship

Albany-Criterium-Race-8.15.09_1637

Yesterday afternoon was a perfect day for the races with temperatures in the mid-70′s and light winds in Downtown Albany. We had a great time hosting the beer garden and watching the talented and very fast racers right behind our taps. Here are some decent pictures that came out from my camera. All are linked to larger hi-res images too for your desktops. Enjoy!

2nd Annual Historic Albany Criterium This Saturday

Historic Albany Criterium 2009 Calapooia Brewing

This weekend is the second annual Historic Albany Criterium bicycle road race in Downtown Albany. Guess who’s doing the beer garden? Of course we are! Here are the details from a recent Democrat Herald article:

Organizers expect between 400 and 600 bicycle racers for the second annual Historic Albany Criterium in downtown Albany on Saturday, Aug. 15.

The event is the setting for the Oregon Bicycle Racing Association’s Criterium Championship this year. The event includes a full slate of categories for junior and senior men and women and uses a 1-kilometer circuit — about 0.6 miles — on downtown streets. Races are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The criterium format on city streets with multiple laps and turns is exciting for spectators and racers, according to Jim Lawrence, one of the organizers and a member of the Albany Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission.

The start will be on Washington at Second. Riders go north on Washington, right on First, right on Ferry, left on Third, right on Broadalbin, right on Fourth, and right on Washington to the finish at Second.

Fans can be up close to the riders as they speed by each lap and can move about the course viewing the race from different perspectives. There is no admission charge for spectators.

My wife and I were in Downtown Portland last weekend and ran into the Portland Twilight Criterium on the way back to our hotel. The excitement and atmosphere around the event was very cool and seeing the action up close was really awesome. I couldn’t help but snap away with the camera while soaking in the speed these guys displayed! See below for a sample, and if you need more proof, check out the nearly 300 images I took of the race.

We’re looking forward to checking out the championship on Saturday while sipping on a Calapooia brew! See you there!
