September is here! The hottest days of summer and the first days of fall. Some of us are excited to be going back to school and some of us are excited because our kids are going back to school (Thank you public school system!). A lot is going on at the Calapooia this month!

The KINGPINS return to the ‘Pooia this Friday, September 7th. It’s classic rock, but with an emphasis on the bands of the British invasion and the psychedelic period, some of my favorite stuff. These guys rock the tunes of Cream, Traffic, The Guess Who and who knows Who else? They’ll start in on your crumpets at 8 o’clock, this Friday!

On Wednesday the 12th, it’s time for another SCIENCE PUB! This month’s title:

Chris Knutson will discuss sensation as it applies to both humans and technology.  There will be discussion of the different methods that humans sense the world around them, and how scientists have used electronic devices and materials to mimic some of our natural senses.  Chris is a PhD chemist in materials science at the University of Oregon who has spent the majority of his research career studying switching materials for digital logic and displays.  Chris is also incredibly afraid of robots.  Please join us for an interesting discussion about how quickly robots are gaining senses, and enjoy the fact that robots still can’t taste beer as well as we can.

Where: Calapooia Brewery, 140 Hill St. NE, Albany, OR 97321

When: September 12th, Trivia starts at 6:30 p.m.

Win a Prize!!! As always the CSMC will have prizes for the top five trivia competitors.

After that, on Friday the 14th, we will once again host The Calapooia Watershed Council Annual Fundraiser in our atrium between 6 and 9pm. If you are interested in the unique place we live, the water we drink and health of our system, come by, grab a beer and a burger. Who knows, you just might learn something?

There’s more to come, but that’ll get us through the half-way mark. I’m heading down the Rogue River for a few days. I’ll see you on the other side!
