Hi Everyone,

The Center for Sustainable Materials Chemistry (CSMC) and Calapooia Brewery would like to invite you all toUnderstanding How  “Junk” in the Genome Leads to Human Disease.

In this talk, Professor Andy Berglund will discuss how extremely small changes in the human genome can have dramatic effects on a person’s health.  Specifically, he will discuss how small repeat elements that expand in the genome can lead to the most common form of adult onset muscular dystrophy.

Professor Berglund as been at the University of Oregon since 2002 where is an Associate Professor of Chemistry and member of the Institute of Molecular Biology.  In 2012, he developed a new masters program in Bioinformatics, which he is the Co-Director.
